Books/Literature

The Contemporary Literature interest group began almost 50 years ago and has been continually running ever since. No original members still participate, but many members have been coming for a long time.

We meet monthly, except for July, January, and February, usually on the fourth Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00.  Members take turns hosting the group in their homes and providing dessert and beverages.

Following a brief business meeting, one member reviews a book that (hopefully) all have read, and we all pitch in to give our thoughts. We always have lively discussions!  Once a year we vote to choose the books for the next year from suggestions of members. We tend to read more fiction, but nonfiction is not ruled out, and we usually read relatively new books, although for a long time we always included one classic a year. It’s the members’ choice, so there’s always a lot of variety.
